Color Philosophies
In Magic, there are five basic colors: White, Green, Blue, Red, and Black. This can be a bit much for a new player to take in--which should you choose to play? The answer: whichever color seems the most understandable and natural for you. The following article takes you through all five colors' philosophies and strategies of winning--which one do you like the best?
White
- Main Focus: Law, order, civilization, defense
- Primary Strategy: Armies of little guys for combat damage, spells for evening the playing field
- Secondary Strategy: Protecting oneself through preventing damage and gaining life

- Enemy Colors: Red and Black

Green
- Main Focus: Nature, untamed growth, survival, instinct
- Primary Strategy: Combat damage through big stompy creatures
- Secondary Strategy: Establish mana first to push the offensive or recover quickly

Blue
- Main Focus: Intellect, subtlety, trickery, manipulation
- Primary Strategy: Control and/or counter opponent's ability to do just about anything
- Secondary Strategy: Draw cards, do a bit of combat damage if necessary

- Enemy Colors: Red and Green

- Main Focus: Passion, chaos, creativity, destruction
- Primary Strategy: Deal direct damage to opponents, some combat damage
- Secondary Strategy: Respond quickly to opponents--with a cost to oneself

- Main Focus: Power-seeking, control, corruption, rot
- Primary Strategy: Control or destroy everything the opponent has, even if one's own things are sacrificed
